The dipole of the astrophysical gravitational-wave background

چکیده
Abstract One of the main pillars ?CDM model is Cosmological Principle, which states that our Universe statistically isotropic and homogeneous on large scales. Here we test this hypothesis using Astrophysical Gravitational Wave Background (AGWB) expected to be measured by Einstein Telescope-Cosmic Explorer network; in particular perform a numerical computation AGWB dipole, evaluating intrinsic contribution due clustering kinematic effect induced observer motion. We apply component separation technique GW context disentangle dipole shot noise (SN), based observation at different frequencies. show how can also implemented matched-filtering minimize covariance accounts for both instrumental SN. Since detectors are essentially full-sky, expect powerful tool help testing isotropy next future.

Mapping the gravitational wave background
The gravitational wave sky is expected to have isolated bright sources superimposed on a diffuse gravitational wave background. The background radiation has two components: a confusion limited background from unresolved astrophysical sources; and a cosmological component formed during the birth of the universe. A map of the gravitational wave background can be made by sweeping a gravitational w...
متن کاملDetection regimes of the cosmological gravitational wave background from astrophysical sources
Key targets for gravitational wave (GW) observatories, such as LIGO and the next generation interferometric detector, Advanced LIGO, include core-collapse of massive stars and the final stage of coalescence of compact stellar remnants. The combined GW signal from such events occurring throughout the Universe will produce an astrophysical GW background (AGB), one that is fundamentally different ...
متن کاملStatistical properties of astrophysical gravitational-wave backgrounds
We investigate how a stochastic gravitational wave background, produced from a discrete set of astrophysical sources, differs from an idealised model consisting of an isotropic, unpolarised, and Gaussian background. We focus, in particular, on the different signatures produced from these two cases, as observed in a cross-correlation search. We show that averaged over many realisations of an ast...

متن کاملGravitational wave background from magnetars
We investigate the gravitational wave background produced by magnetars. The statistical properties of these highly magnetized stars were derived by population synthesis methods and assumed to be also representative of extragalactic objects. The adopted ellipticity was calculated from relativistic models using equations of state and assumptions concerning the distribution of currents in the neut...
